It’s a local landmark
in our front yard.
“Is that the building with the tree in the middle?”
they ask.
We nod and smile.
Only the old folks remember
it used to be a
fruit-stand.
Bleachers built
in a perfect hexagon
around the tree
for bushels of gleaming red
and glowing gold apples —
Jonathan Mcintosh
Cortland Winesap
Golden delicious
Yellow transparent.
Breathe deep
Smell the sweet
Hear the shouts of sisters
jumping down the bleachers
between the baskets–
our feet zing
and echo
on the wooden boards.
The years transform
the echo
into the whine
of brine trucks
speeding up the road.
When did I get old?
Gratitude for the old cottage that has come round to my life again…
LOVE this. So nostalgic. Made me feel like home. Thank you.

Gosh, how I would LOVE to have a farmstand! That’s fabulous.

It doesnt look fabulous from the inside! The roof is rotting and we waffle about what to do with it. Right now its a storage shed and garage.

Aughhhh, the fun of restoration. It’s a mixed bag, I know! Even so, it looks like a worthy project at some point. :)

I think we need a lovely bathroom first. :-)

Sigh…I understand. Our bathroom is the only thing in our house that is left to renovate. It’s awful. Unfortunately, bathrooms aren’t cheap to do, even doing it yourself. Even so, I still have it mostly planned out. I just dread whipping out the checkbook on that one. Lol.
