I’ve been struggling to write two posts — very different posts — one on stuff and one on our new bedroom that’s almost, but not quite finished. I’d like to show it to you, but there’s just one more finishing touch needed…
And so I’ve given up on those longer, deeper posts for now; instead I will just show you what’s new in the kitchen.
We’ve got some baseboard in finally — no more ugly gray plaster lines! And notice the crown moulding. I only have one thing to say about that. If your husband is doing it, keep out of his way and keep your mouth shut. Okay, that’s two things, I know…

A panorama shot taken with Mr. H.C.’s IPhone camera…
We’ve also brought in the cupboard that was always going to go in that spot; we just weren’t sure exactly how it would look best. So what else would you do on a Sunday evening except move the cupboard around in different spots? We have our favorites, of course; and Mr. H.C. only mildly complained that I was making him move this very heavy cupboard, when it was obvious to him which way it should go…
What do you think?
Love the green door is just remarkable…Hope you get a moment to stop by on to my webpage and assist in the cause.

Thank you so much. I originally just started this so we could have a record of “how we spent two years of our lives”…
but I’m enjoying writing about it as much as doing it. Thanks for the nice comment!

Thank you! I made it look prettier by using this stuff called Restore-a-Finish. You just rub it on old wood, and it is transformed. (No kickbacks from advertising on this site. :-) )

Love the green. It makes a nice modern contrast with the other colors/materials. Oahwz.. cupboards can be a little naughty and drive you nuts… I’ve been moving mine around for months now and still not completely satisfied. ;)

Love it in the corner! But my second favorite is against the bead board. Both postions transfer your eyes nicely down to your table! And as far as crown moulding advice…. I would rather be cleaning out a chicken coup than sharing in my husbands affair with it! (remembering when we built our house, LOL!)

Hah! That’s for sure! I think maybe marriages have been ruined by DIY crown moulding projects! When Michael starts muttering, look out! At one point, he said, “Well I think I have to go get a new mitre box.” That’s when I clamped my mouth shut and went out on to the back porch to turn on the sander so I couldn’t hear him anymore… :-)
(So did you get chickens?)

We are half way into building the coup! I think as coups go, he really went extreme. I think he really is planning for it to be used a s a tool shed in the future, just in case “it doesn’t go well”

Yeah, chickens die — quickly sometimes! A neighbor of ours lost all of hers in one night! Sort of makes us rethink free-range chickens…Let me know when you get chicks!

It all looks beautiful! Put the cupboard in the most functional place because they all look good.

I think we’re going with the corner. It seems to make the traffic around the island flow better (and it’s the one that Michael liked in the first place…)

Doors open or closed?
Hah, I know the answer to that — open when they’re clean, closed when they’re messy… (which means closed most of the time) :-)

Oh, your comment about the crown moulding just made me laugh! :) I know exactly what you mean, and I did stay out of his way when he was putting it up in our house! I would love to have it in more rooms, but dare I ask?? I’m not sure I have ever seen the man more frustrated then when he was tackling that project (and call himself so many names too!) But!! doesn’t it look so nice when it is all done?! I think the key is LOTS & LOTS of compliments when it is all done! :)
What a cozy room – I think I like the doors open b.t.w. :)

It does look beautiful — just makes a room look finished. I barely slid by with a C in geometry, so when he starts talking about cutting angles upside down and backwards, my eyes glaze over…
Dare you ask indeed! :-)

Just the cutest kitchen, I actually like the middle photo (can see your laptop in) as far as positioning the cupboard. It leaves a great spot for a piece of favourite art either made by you or someone you love.
