thirty biblical reasons to vote democratic in 2020: #20 Conduct

Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. –Titus 2:2 (NIV)

Donald Trump was born on June 14, 1946. That makes him 74 years old, which qualifies him as an older man… The only adjective we can check off here is temperate. I’m told he doesn’t drink…

Multiple Bible translations offer many different adjectives:

…dignified, sensible, sound in faith, steadfast, self-controlled, patient, grave, sober, chaste, serious, wise, prudent, clear-minded, of good character, disciplined, respectable, honorable…

you get the idea…

On my elementary grade report cards on the back page we were graded for CONDUCT

and the president doesn’t pass.

“Even a child makes himself known by his acts, by whether his conduct is pure and upright.” –Proverbs 20:11.

thirty biblical reasons to vote democratic in 2020: #19 Honesty

“Anyone who can be trusted in little matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest in little matters will be dishonest in important matters.” — Luke 16:10 (CEV)

Little lies turn into big lies. If you are dishonest about little things, you are dishonest about big things.

In September of 2019 the President said in a tweet that Hurricane Dorian would likely hit Alabama, so residents of Alabama should be cautious.

A few minutes later the National Weather Service felt compelled to correct what the president had erroneously said. (After all, it is their job to predict weather as accurately as possible). So they corrected the president, saying that no, actually, Hurricane Dorian was not expected to hit Alabama. It was just a small error that most people would just shrug off when it was found to be false. Use humor, admit you were wrong, no big deal. But the president wouldn’t or couldn’t let it go, even going so far as bringing out a doctored map, a few days later, insisting that the original forecast included Alabama.

You can read about the whole sorry episode here: https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/597469/

It isn’t my point to bring up old news; the point is the bible verse from Luke that says, if one is dishonest in a small thing, one will be dishonest in the big things.

thirty biblical reasons to vote democratic in 2020: #18 Money

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” —Luke 14:28 (NIV)

The U.S. budget deficit hit $3 trillion in September of this year. That is $3,000,000,000,000. That is 12 zeroes of credit card debt.

Okay, I’m just going to admit here that the only class I ever failed in 17 1/2 years of schooling was Economics. (2nd term, freshman year of college…) But I do know that deficit spending is bad. And 3 Trillion Dollars is unfathomable…

Aren’t Republicans supposed to be conservative on spending?

Jesus continues the verse above with this: “For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able to finish’.” Luke 14:29-30 (NIV)

So instead this fellow borrows money to finish the project? And then runs the project into the ground and is forced to declare bankruptcy  SIX bankruptcies. Who would think this fellow was a good businessman? Who would think this fellow is better at keeping your money safe than the other guy?

The U.S. is in a financial hole that will disable us for years, maybe forever?

And in case you don’t remember, this fellow promised (in 2016) to eliminate the national debt in 8 years. He’s got a long way to go. I’m not willing to give him four more years so he can have a seventh bankruptcy…
