Well, yes, since you asked, there are several reasons I haven’t written a post in over a month:
- I’ve been busy putting away the last of the garden: canning tomatoes, beans, pears, drying herbs, pickling peppers…
- It’s fall and the light is failing even though it doesn’t FEEL like fall with 70-80 degree temperatures; life seems like it’s on hold. Surreal even…
- The longer one waits in between posts, the less likely it is for anything to seem “write-worthy”.
- The world is going to hell, so how can I write about recipes, gardens, planting garlic, getting rid of groundhogs, drying herbs, trying to write a novel, or working on a bathroom?
- Devastating floods in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico, earthquakes in Mexico, mass murders in Las Vegas, terrifying fires in California — puts all that other puny unimportant stuff in perspective, doesn’t it?
- I have nothing important to say, except God have mercy on us.
And really, that is the most important thing to say…
Listen to this beautiful version of Trisagion by Fernando Ortega.
Amen, my friend! I hope you and Mr. H.C. are well.

And our daily life seems so “little”, even insignificant. When all we can do is pray, that is what we must do. That is what God expects us to do. It doesn’t seem like much sometimes but it is everything.

Yes, it is. Maggie is in Napa, and these wildfires are particularly horrifying….

I know what you mean.
It’s not easy staying positive with so much mayhem affecting our planet and species.

Your note and subsequent comments make me realize how when things seem most desperate we all tend to say – “All we can do is pray.” When in fact, even in the best of times, “all we can do is pray.” What we “do” apart from prayer is of such little value, even for workaholics like me who are so bad at praying at all.

Yes. I know what you are saying but our actions/responses matter. Funny — me telling you that.

Amen and amen for your thoughts, your concerns, your wish for God’s mercy and for the beautifully sung Trisagion. I, too, am fearful. And your words and the song you shared comforted me.

I’m so glad you told me they were of comfort. It seemed as if every time I sat down to write a post, something else dreadful would happen, and what I was writing about seemed insignificant. I almost didn’t hit the publish button on this one either… thank you. (I’ve been listening to a lot of his songs lately. His voice/words/arrangements are peace-full.)

Yes. I absolutely believe that God brings us closer to him through tragedies and low points in our lives.

I gave a homeless guy money yesterday just because I felt so helpless in the face of all the other tragedies. :-)

I have struggled with what to write (or not write) in the face of tragedy upon tragedy. It’s tough. You hit just the right note.
